  • Cleveland manager Peckinpaugh ejected by 1B umpire Campbell for arguing when Fonseca called out by for interfering with the play by running out of base line when he had clearly beaten the play; fans were incensed but did not know about the interference ruling; fans were egged on by Cleveland's Peckinpaugh and coach Shanks; players surrounded Campbell and the park was in an uproar; a hundred bottles were thrown from the RF stands; police were summoned to restore order; Peckinpaugh was suspended for five days

A chorus of boos greeted Campbell upon resumption of play; A's Boley and coach Gleason also injured by thrown bottles
