- Carew's long fly was apparently caught by LeFlore, but was dropped when he ran into the fence; 1B umpire Kaiser initially ruled it a catch, then changed his call when the ball was dropped; the runner at 2nd, Powell, returned to his base when he saw the out call, but Smalley had continued to run and was out for passing Powell
