- Pittsburgh manager Clarke ejected by HP umpire Byron for creating a false argument to delay game with impending rain; batter Pearce swung at bad pitches to speed up game and pitcher threw at him to prevent him from swinging; Pearce tried to swing at ball 4 that nearly hit him, throwing his bat at pitcher; Byron ejected him as well
- Pirates made no play on Vaughn as they tried to prolong game
