Yankees manager Virdon ejected by 1B umpire Napp for arguing that Grich offered at a pinch on an attempted bunt; it was ruled no swing by HP umpire Jim Evans
Yankees pitching coach Whitey Ford came out to visit pitcher Sam McDowell a second time during Tommy Davis' plate appearance; 1B umpire Larry Napp yelled to Ford to stop him but Ford walked onto the field with the intention of removing McDowell; Napp sent Ford back to the dugout, told McDowell to finish pitching to Davis and then removed McDowell from the game' Orioles manager Earl Weaver protested the game, saying that McDowell should have left the game when Ford came out the second time
