Notes & reviews
- Umpire Chris Pelekoudas missed the game with the flu
- Moose checked his swing on the 1-2 pitch, which sailed to the backstop and Sanguillen scored; the pitch was called a ball but pitcher Bunning appealed to 1B umpire Donatelli on the check swing; Donatelli ruled that Moose had swung for strike three; catcher threw the ball to 3B to get Mazeroski trying to advance from 1B; Bunning then yelled to 3bman Money that Moose never ran to 1B; Money threw the ball to 1bman Johnson; the umpires huddled, ruled Moose out and disallowed the run; this ruling was incorrect and in top of 8th umpires reversed the decision and restored the Pirates' run
- Phillies coach Myatt ejected by HP umpire Davidson for continuing to argue that Briggs was safe at second
