Notes & reviews
- The throw bounced against the boxes and was recovered by Cavarretta, who tagged Ryan, contending the base runner had turned toward second with the overthrow. Umpire Lou Jorda ruled Ryan had not turned, which so excited Cavarretta that Eddie Stanky had to tackle him as he charged Jorda; Cavarretta was chased.
