Notes & reviews

Hal Chase Day in Buffalo. It was announced that Hal Chase would play today for the Buffalo Blues of the Federal League. Chase had jumped from the Chicago White Sox of the American League earlier in the week. The White Sox sought an injunction preventing Chase from playing for Buffalo. The Blues learned that an injunction had been granted and that the Sheriff was on his way to the ballpark. In order to ensure that the fans got to see Chase in action, Buffalo chose to bat first in this game and hurried to get the game under way before the Sheriff arrived.
The Sheriff arrived and served Chase with the injuction papers as Chase was walking off the field at the end of Pittsburgh's second inning. Chase did not play again for Buffalo for nearly a month at which time Chase won his court case and he was allowed to play for Buffalo.
