Swinging 3rd strike on a pitch in the dirt. McCarver picked it up and stepped on the plate for the force on Howard.
Linz threw past Stottlemyre who was trying to cover 1B
Stadium lights were turned on to offset shadows at the plate
McCarver was trapped but returned to 3B when Howard's throw hit him. Shannon had advanced to 3B but retreated towards 2B. McCarver then raced for home and was again trapped.
