Dugan (still batting out of turn) led off with a single to left. Acting Manager Schalk of the Giants called Umpire Quigley's attention to it and a wrangle followed. In the course of which Quigley ejected Johnny Evers. Quigley took Dugan off first base, called out Maguire (who should have been the first man up), and ordered Taylor to hit.
