Notes & reviews

No fielding credit awarded for BOOT in 1921 $Heilmann hit a home run, but Veach was due up. Senators alerted umpire and Heilmann was declared out for the third out of the inning. Heilmann will lead off the Tigers 2nd. (Batting-out-of-turn rules were not yet fully codified. Officially Heilmann was credited with an at bat whereas Veach was 'skipped'. Later on the rules for a situation like this would mandate that Veach be declared out, not Heilmann.)
Grounder to 1bman who threw to 3B and trapped Harris off the bag. Harris stayed in a rundown between 3B and home long enough to allow Rice to advance to 3B and Brower to advance to 2B. However, when Harris retreated to 3B Rice was already on the base. 3bman tagged both Harris and Rice and Rice was declared out. 3bman then threw to 2B to try to nail Brower. Harris thinking he had been called out started walking toward the dugout. 2bman threw back to 3B around same time Senators 3B coach pushed Harris back to 3B. Harris was then called out due to coach's interference.
