After Davenport struck out Memphis refused to send a batter to the plate; protesting that it was too dark to continue.
Umpire Harvey had Howard pitch despite no batters; Harvey called Robinson and Taylor out on strikes despite neither of them coming to the plate. The game was then called due to darkness. Memphis filed a formal protest.
