  • Rice hit grounder to Melillo who threw home hoping to nail McNeely who then reversed direction and scampered safely back to third base. Bucky Harris, the runner on second base who had started for third, then headed back to second. Catcher Schang threw wildly to second trying to nail Harris, allowing McNeely to score, Harris to advance to third, and Rice to advance to second.
