- Dark clouds gathered and it appeared a storm was imminent; Browns engaged in dilatory tactics from this point until the game became official after 4-1/2 innings
- Rice jogged to first, intentionally giving himself up on the DP in order to speed up the game as it began to rain and Senators wanted the game to become official game
- CF Williams, in an attempt to delay proceedings so that rain would wipe out the game before it became official, fielded the ball and then hung on to it. Trying to be put out to speed up the game Harris ran for second. When Williams refused to throw the ball, Harris then strolled to third base. Still Williams refused to throw the ball. Finally Harris headed for home and Williams belatedly made a half-hearted throw. Harris was credited with a home run. (Chief umpire Connolly sent a report to the league office describing how Rice, Williams, and Harris made farcical plays in this inning.)
