Gharrity's throw hit Ward
Brower fumbled the hit; Harris muffed the throw-in attempting to tag Ruth.
The ball caromed off Brower and disappeared under the pavilion. He recovered it in time to throw Schang out at 3B, but the umpires allowed Schang to score under ground rules.
