Notes & reviews

  • Cardinals catcher O'Farrell ejected by HP umpire Pfirman for arguing balls and strikes
  • Phillies catcher Wilson ejected by HP umpire Pfirman for arguing balls and strikes. In addition, pitcher Ring who attributed his wildness to a sweat-drenched undershirt asked that he be allowed to change it. HP umpire Pfirman said no. Joe Schultz then came out of the Phillies dugout and argued that Ring should be allowed to change his undershirt. Pfirman again said no and ejected Schultz. Manager Fletcher then came out of the Phillies dugout and continued the argument with Pfirman about Ring's undershirt. Cardinals manager Hornsby, on third base this entire time, walked toward home plate and told Fletcher to get back in the dugout. Fletcher and Hornsby got into a fight with Hornsby landing the only punch before other players and the police separated them. Both Hornsby and Fletcher were ejected by Pfirman. (During the fracas Ring went to the Phillies dugout and changed his undershirt.)
