After Rice caught short fly, Combs ran a few feet down the line and stopped when Rice faked a throw. Combs edged further along and Rice again feigned a toss. When Combs was almost half way to the plate, he broke for home, causing the surprised Rice to make a bad throw to Severeid. Combs scored standing up.
