Burns ran towards 2B before Ehmke started to pitch. Ehmke backed off the rubber and, with one eye on McNulty, began closing in on Burns who stopped about 10' from 2B. When Burns made a dive into 2B, Ehmke's throw hit him on the shoulder and caromed into RF.
